OT: A Truly Political Moment in America

Greetings and Salutations.... Ok...I KNOW it does not have anything to do with metalworking, but, this was just too great not to share, considering the level of political discourse that goes on here:

Gleaned From Metropulse, Dec 2, 2004 "Congressman Jimmy Duncan (R-Knoxville) managed to insert into a federal omnibus spending bill $2 million for the bus transfer building on State Street. $475,000 for a veteran's Memorial at Old Gray Cemetary $500,000 for the East Tennessee Historical Society museum. $250,000 for UT Hospital.

Duncan then voted against the $388 Billion spending bill because it was laden with pork."

To me, this is a PERFECT example of the state of politics in America today, from the Federal level all the way down to our local, county commissioners. Regards Dave Mundt

Much as I hate to say it, Rep. Duncan's actions make perfect sense in the real world. You include stuff in the bill that's popular in your district, gaining you brownie points with the voters. Then you vote against the whole bill as being full of pork, to gain even more brownie points with the electorate.

What this says about the level of cynicism and hypocrisy it takes to be a successful 21st Century congresscritter is something else entirely.
