My brother needs to change one or two glow plugs on his bug anyone know how much trouble this is or point me toward a how to? Quotes were $200 w/parts for a mechanic and $400 w/parts for the dealer. He'd rather do it himself. Thanks Karl
Probably about right for price. I have changed one or more glow plugs on our 1983 MB diesel. Uses 5.
This fall I discovered how to easily check the resistance of each glow plug from the connector going to the relay control. Is there a similar test spot on the VW? Otherwise you need to remove the connecting wire and check the resistance of each glow plug. Well, not the resistance exactly, but whether the plug is open or is still working. If not open, then it is still ok.
