OT-More attacks on gun rights

Greetings and Salutations... Well, just saw a short story on CNN, with some kind of breathless reporting about one of their guys who went out on the Net, and found a private seller of 50 cal rifles...and BOUGHT one! They were also surprised that it was possible to order ammunition over the Net and have UPS show up with it in a little bit. Of course, they took the rifle out and blew some holes in an aircraft door and a 1" thick panel of steel, to proof how dangerous a weapon it was. I will say that, in their favor, they did mention in passing that a) the gun had NEVER been used domestically in a crime, b) It IS legal to buy and sell them privately, and to purchase ammunition, and, c) that even if one were to shoot an airliner, it was not actually all that likely to cause a crash. Still...it seemed pretty supportive of the congresscritter who wants to ban the weapons entirely, and, that continuing erosion of our 2d amendment rights worries me. They also pretty much ignored the fact that this is one heavy weapon, and, it is a LOT harder to hit a moving target than it is to pull the trigger on a fixed target, on a bench rest, on a closed range. But, hey, I am probably just quibbling *smile*. Ok...this has metalworking content, as there are some interesting shots of some of the manufacturing steps going on to build the gun. Interesting stuff. Regards dave mundt

Shoot your gun, pound your pud whatever turns your crank. Must you bang your antlers and bleat so loudly to draw attention?

Please consider gathering arms as you feel necessary, and shut the hell up about it. Suggested diversion: work on your design for a pistol that fires a .50 BMG round......

Whats the matter Don, scared by a cap pistol when you were in your crib?

Rule #35 "That which does not kill you, has made a huge tactical error"

These .50s SHOULD be banned...I can't afford one. (I want a .454 Casull untill I can get a Barrett)

[snip] continuing erosion of our 2d amendment

Obliteration of the rest of the Constitution courtesy of Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Gonzales, Rice, Rummy & Co. is far more worrisome.

It would be, if people like you were to succeed in stripping us of the 2nd. And remind me again of how Kerry and Edwards voted on the Patriot Act, please?

I go ATVing in areas that used to be used for training during WW2. We find live .50 cal rounds all of the time. They look cool cleaned up. We find thousands of casings and bullets, and occasionally one that has hit something hard. They look incredible once they have hit something really hard. They have an armor piercing core that stays pristine while the copper/lead jacket peels back. Nasty looking.

Well, if you want metalworking content, consider that the plans for building a 50 caliber rifle are widely available. Interesting metalworking project and easily within the abilities of most wreckers.

No you don't. Not unless you've got wrists like a gorilla.

Three rounds through one of those puppies and my wrist ached for days.

You one-handed it?

WHY?

My wife was handed one of those .454s one day a few years back. All the guys were snickering at the "little lady" with the big gun, until she asked for another cylinderful of rounds. Use proper techniques and it doesn't hurt at all. Of course, her carry piece is a .357 snubby with

+P+ loads. :D

Just what were the attacks?

Made a hell of a dent in the nipple when the cap was popped -- Ma didn't appreciate that much. Neither of us were ever quite the same after that. That was in an era where there was no governmental regulation of cap pistols with udder disregard to the infantile trauma they might present.

Because it was the first time I'd ever shot one?

Don't ASSume I'm a fan of Kerry & Edwards, 'cause you'll just make an ass of yourself. I'm well aware those two voted for it as well. However, the Bush Junta bears the primary blame (at present) for their implementation of it.

Get a Magnum Research BFR in .45-70 -- local Gander Mountain store has one priced at $899.00. Much more comfortable to shoot than the .454 Casull.
