OT: update on IBM pension screw-job

Huh? I'm still confused.

I don't know from legal decisions, but I took a quick look and this quick synopsis seems to disagree with what you are saying...

I read that corporations are NOT allowed to act like individuals in this particular law which seems to apply only to political contributions. Is there more that I missed with a simple search?

Close, in some points, to what we have in Australia (it's independent of the employer, & you can move it around - "portable" as we say).

*Except* that the govt. got greedy (so what's new), & taxes it. Three times, to be exact: when you put money in, any earnings, and again when you take it out.

Define "short term."

My theory is that corporations for whatever reason have an inherently limited lifetime. They grow rot from the top down. Some faster than others. Ten years is a long time. What corporations last 100 years?

Well Pat B., the Republicans are SUPPOSEDLY in charge...they sure are spending money like they control of the purse strings...so what's the hold up?

They have had almost six years to get IT done...so again....what is the Problem?

Might it be that they value the donations of their campaign contributors more than the lives of Americans?

It will take another 9/11 that takes Washington DC out accomplished by terrorists coming through Mexico to motivate our so called leaders to properly regulate the border.

Hey, maybe you'll get lucky when they take out Seattle with a dirty bomb and live to tell us all about it.

General Electric Company!!

The company traces its beginnings to Thomas A. Edison, who established Edison Electric Light Company in 1878. In 1892, a merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson-Houston Electric Company created General Electric Company. GE is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index today that was also included in the original index in 1896.

I suspect there are quite a few 100 year old companies. Babcock and Wilcox were around in the 1800's. Westinghouse was founded in

1886, DuPont shipped it's first product in 1802, Weyerhaeuser started cutting down forests in 1900. Boeing isn't 100 but is surprisingly close. Probably prior to the 70's bankruptcies and buyouts, there were many 100 year old railroads.

Is this why Kerry still has $14 million of the money donated from his last run at the presidency?

I find it interesting that NOBODY has mentioned this year's record snowfalls in South America......Global warming?

And, life as we know it would NOT exist had global warming not melted the glaciers a few years ago..........
