Over the last couple months, I've captured a total of three cockroaches whilst they were on patrol in my garage. (Just one roach each at weekly or fortnightly intervals.)
It seemed strange, because I'd never previously seen a 'roach in the 17 years we've been here and could not explain the reason for their sudden appearance.
I recalled another strange thing I saw while on an evening walk in the neighborhood about a year ago. I came upon an encampment of say 30 roaches just sitting on the sidewalk at a street corner. That was exceedingly odd because I'm familiar enough with their habits to understand that they do not normally 'take the air' of an evening, preferring instead the security and cover offered by any kitchen cabinet or home appliance, for example.
I conjectured that they had been chauffeured to the street corner by persons (and for reasons) unknown.
Two days ago, we were gifted with a doorknob flier from a local pest control company. All previous doorknob fliers had been from pizzerias or dry cleaners.
At the risk of implying causation to this correlation, I leapt to the conclusion that there was in fact a reason for the delivery of the roaches to the street corner.
In response to the roaches' appearance, I'd decorated the garage thresholds and the areas underneath the roll-around tool cabinet and beneath the washer and dryer with a layer of borax powder.
After a month, we are once again free of the little charmers.
