Hello all, I'm really curious about how motors get rewound. Does anyone have any recommended links about the theory & the process? For example, how do you select the wire, how do much wire gets put back on, etc. I blew a motor and may have it rewound vs. buying a new one. I do not plan on doing it myself but it's one of those things where I got to thinking & became interested in understanding more about how it's done.

Lindsay sells a good book on the subject, from the 20's. "Armature Winding and Motor Repair."
A rewinder counts the turns in the coils and measures the wire size. Then he puts back in what he took out. The required engineering was done by the motor manufacturer.
The difficulties in motor rebuilding are mostly centered around removing the old winding without damaging the core iron and making sure the new winding's insulation system is up to spec. before it is dipped and baked or vacuum-pressure impregnated.
