Strange mail issue

Mail forwarding [interception and those yellow stickers] are done regionally by some group called "PARS". In my case, they returned all my mail with "No such address.." and causing me much grief.

Call USPS HQ (202) 636-1200....

This statement is not very believable to me. Had this been true, anyone could avoid these measures by providing a fake return address.

Have fun if you get caught doing that.

Ahh, the wonders of "the government is taking steps to protect you!" Sure, totally insane stupidity, especially when the procedures become public. But, that info was actually PUBLISHED when the post office was in a complete tizzy after the anthrax debacle around 2002, I think. Obviously the USPS can't sterilize every mail item, or even parcel. So, they have to have some system for deciding which pieces have to go through sterilization, inspection, etc. How the hell they decide, when a simple letter can be packed with fine spores of something nasty, is a complete mystery to me.

We usually give the postman a bottle of bourbon at Christmas. I really do not think it makes a difference in the service we get, but it can't hurt.

I just became a postal employee and I wish I could tell you. My job is to h elp route mail that the computers can't read, and I frequently see pieces o f mail that say "return to sender" and have stickers over the return addres s that say "unable to forward for review." Not only was I never told what t his means, I am also baffled that anyone would put this sticker over the re turn address on a piece of mail that is supposed to go back to the sender. I am getting the impression that the postal service is not the most efficie ntly run operation in the country. If I'm able to find out more, I'll post it here.

The link has some messages from 2012. Hopefully, Iggy's mail is working OK, now. Apparently, any mail with no return address is sent off for gamma ray sterilization, due to the anthrax mess about 15 years ago. That would account for some delay.

PS Have lived here 11 years and have received mail from this credit card in the past.

Quite possible a carrier was too lazy to deliver it so said he/she couldn't - there was no forwarding address (obviously) so it was "reviewed" - found that the address was correct - and re-delivered.

Unable to Forward Mail undeliverable at address given; no change-of-address order on file; forwarding order expired. Perhaps someone trying to re-direct your mail? or someone accidentally put a redirect on your address instead of theirs, or a postal employee can't read and THOUGHT there was a redirect on your mail???

Yup, I was ready to come up with a devious motive, when pure incompetence is the most likely cause. I get a TON of our neighbor's mail, the carrier grabs a handful of paper and stuffs it in our box. Usually it is for a close neighbor and I just deliver it myself.

And, of course, the OP might have somebody with a grudge against him, and they turned him in for (terrorism, drugs, human trafficking, etc.) and now some 3-letter agency is reading all his mail.

I just received my niece's Christmas card last week. I had sent it to her December 17th. It was hand-marked "moved". First class stamp, and it takes 2.5 MONTHS to be returned 350 miles? It turns out that I still had their last address.

Unable to Forward means they can't match up the name with a new address. For Review means they'll send it somewhere to someone who is supposed to give a damn. They don't. The USPS is bankrupt. Have you seen the prices for Priority Mail nowadays? A ten pound package costs $28 to go from WA to OR, $45 to go from OR to IL, or $62 to go from OR to NJ. The same package is coming to me from WA for $18.30 via UPS.

The post office takes in billions of worthless mail pieces from junk mailers and only charges 14 cents apiece for mailing them; 84B per year. Our letters cost 49 cents to mail now. Junk mail is 48% of the USPS business, so half their customers spend less than 1/3 the price the other half does. 44% of bulk mail is thrown away unopened/viewed, but only 22% is recycled. Is it any wonder they're losing $20B a year (estimated for 2015)? I'm surprised the greenies haven't exploded about that yet. I guess they do only if it's Republican junk mail, eh?

I had the USPS return mail to a customer as undeliverable. My business was the first place you saw, when you walked out their front door.

Yabbut, the postal trucks leave stealthily out the back door. That's why we still have drivers. They are supposed to be able to retain knowledge of things like that. BUT, my route is used as a training route for new posties. This means that, even though I wrote on the inside of the post box door "NO Edwards!" (previous occupant from 20 some odd years ago, well before me) I get overdue notices for Edwards on a regular basis. $1k a week and they can't read English? Feh.

Yes, I meant to mention that for a while we were getting our mail delivered between 7 and 9 *** PM ***! And, I don't think the postal carriers get overtime. That is just horrible, I can't imagine lugging mail around for 14 hours a day, even though they get to ride in a truck.

Did you know that postal carriers have to BUY their own truck?

I rather doubt that they put in 14 hour days, Jon. I've had them come at 6pm and asked. They said the truck was broken so their day didn't start until 11:45am that day.

I was surprised when I saw the mail truck come on a _Sunday_ last month, after a few days of snow. He had tire chains, though they usually use studded tires here in the winter.

Amazon and maybe someone else made a deal for Sunday package deliveries. My mailman told me the new guys get stuck with it.

I've had a package seemingly delayed nearly a week by Amazon to assure it would arrive on Sunday, and not sooner.

Knowing the postal service, Amazon paid a discount rate for the USPS to do so, too.
