Where to buy Aluminum/Brass-blackening fluid?

Hi Group: Where can I buy fluids for blackening aluminum and/or brass in around 75 to

100 oz. bottles? I only find sources who all sell the same 3oz bottle from BIRCHWOOD for between $6 and $8. This is very expensive because the fluid istelf is very cheap to manufacture. Maybe chemical hazard regulations are behind just offering such small quantities. I found some good recipies for making such fluids - and I would do this - but then I do not know where to buy small quantities fo the chemicals either? Can someone help? Alex

They have a wide line of patinas. (Disclaimer: I haven't tried any of their stuff yet.)

Here's another source. You don't say where you are so that's a hindrance. These are in the USA.

Gun blueing. SLIGHTLY dampen a rag, wear rubber gloves, Rub until it darkens enough for you. Too much and it'll get like a coat of soot - which will wipe off, and you can start again. Dunno about Al, but works great on Brass, and much faster than "Blacken-it", which smells just as bad, but takes forever and turns just as smutty if you are not careful....

Cheaper than any of the "black..." solutions, too.

Most of these contain Selenium-based acids or salts. Doesn't wash off skin easily; presumably the most offensive thing is the odor, but I guess Se is a heavy metal and worthy of a little paranoia... /mark
