Workshop webcam

Just a thought...

Does anyone who spends a great deal of time in their shop have a webcam? It would be fascinating to see what other people are working on. I thought of putting one in our workshop, but it would be dark and boring about 90% of the time :-).

90%? You think highly of yourself!! ;-) Is your shop interesting one hour out of every ten? Greg

You'd catch me in my diapers and bunny slippers--mostly cursing like a sailor, as I broke endmill after endmill, screwing up part after part.

Or me in my nightshirt leaning over the SB tail stock to read the water meter at 6AM the other day - forgot to read it the night before and the meter person would be totally lost. Gerry :-)} London, Canada

In my workshop, the webcam would catch me bending and twisitng to get from one place to another. The camera would probably always be in the wrong spot to see what I am doing. However, if you want to see shops, try a Google IMAGE search for "my workshop". I got 31,000 hits. About 40% aren't workshop pictures, but a lot of them are.

Pita-pat-tap-ta-boom! The rim shot award for '05 goes to you - LOL!

A fellow named Don Lancaster wrote for several hobbyist magazines in the '60s and '70s, and offered kits of the projects for sale at the end of his articles. He soon discovered that only a tiny fraction (under 5%) of readers ever actually built the projects, and concluded that most of them simply enjoyed reading about someone else doing the work. They received vicarious satisfaction as they mentally finished the project. So here we are in 2005 and people are even lazier! They don't even have to read and flip pages, they can just sit there and watch Bubba Son and Mean Ol' Dad fiddle around in their shop. Is this a great country or what?

It was a thrill to find that Don Lancaster is frequently on this newsgroup. He was one of our heroes in the mid-70's, along with Steve Ciarcia...

Well a guy I vaguely knew claimed to have the world's only single pixel webcam. If you do a Google search for "ross church single pixel webcam" it's at the top.
