I would think so. 12" of 12 ga is not all that much material.

I can't tell what the job is. Are you forming or blanking, shearing or drawing? If you are forming or drawing, what is the finished shape? Please tell more. I disagree with Roy, 12ga. is some substantial material. When I blank 12ga. on a 60 ton press, the ground shakes and light bulbs burn-out. I use a 6 ton bottle to open a stuck die and it doesn't always work.

It takes 8.6 tons to bend a piece of 1/8" material (mild steel) 12" long in a 1" wide V die to 90 deg. 6 ton may be marginal but it shuld still bend 12 ga material if thats what were talking about bending into an angle.

After getting up off my lazy ass and getting my Machinery Handbook to see what the actual decimal equivalent of 12 ga plate was (0.1046", I refigured and it comes to : 5.4 tons required to bend 12 inches of 12 ga sheet steel.

Now I am all tuckered out after walking those 50 steps to get the book out of my truck and 82 steps back as I had to make a detour to wack the dog to stop him from barking. Time for a beer!
