I would like to find a 2-AA flashlight with a 1 watt Luxeon, with the 2 batteries side to side so the flashlight is short and flat. Any clues?

A couple that I know..truck drivers...good friends from BC, used to pickup/deliver here in California. First time they came down they had serious sticker shock when they went to buy stuff in LA. Fortunately..I knew all the cheap places for Stuff. and later on subsequent trips..Id have purchased Stuff wholesale for them so they could take it back home affordably. Of course they declared it at customs..indeed. Right.

The little town up in the middle of bumfuck nowhere didnt have much of a selection of electronics and so forth. When I took them to the Fry's electronics in North Hollywood..they reminded me of my buddies new Russian wife the first time he took her to a Walmart SuperStore...

Thats the big problem with being a trucker..and a service guy..you see lots of sceanery out the windshield..but seldome have time to do anything or go anywhere.

I found something that is at least a step in the right direction. Target sells a 2 x AAA cell LED flashlight from "Inova" that is about the same size as my 2 x AA incandescent penlight. It cost $13, has a very functional on/off push button on the end cap, and puts out a LOT of light. I suspect that the efficiency of the LED balanced against the smaller batteries means it won't run too much longer than the old AA version, but it sure is brighter and the bulb won't burn out any time soon.

There are lots of 1-W luxeons out there that work on 1 AA, so the length should be no more than what you describe. Another option is the Wal-Mart 2xAA LED flashlight, can't remember the maker, that is configured side-by-side. It's about $12, don't recall the LED specs.

I don't think that LED is a 1-W Luxeon
