Article written by LBSC in ME

Gentlemen,

I have recently acquired a unfinished chassis for a 0-6-2 loco in Gauge 1 and speaking to a gentleman at the Fosse way Exhibition Hall yesterday about I managed to glean the following. He thinks that LBSC wrote articles on a 5 in gauge loco but at the same time made a Gauge 1 design call MOLL ? Can anybody shed any light on the subject and possibly produce copies of it please. Beer tokens available of course. He also thought that there may have been a booklet produced on it as well ?

Thanks

Martin P

Sign of a demented mind replying to ones posts but still......

Just had a look and Molly was a 3-1/2" gauge loco covered in 1941 and

1942 There is a reference to a 'Mollyette' and in 1942 Vol 86 issue 2131 there is a reference to ""Molly" on gauge "1"

There is another reference in 200 to Mollyette as being in gauge 0 and another that Molly was an 0-6-0

Probably don't help

I don't think my collection starts until about 1944 in full but I can check tomorrow, dark now and the workshop is haunted.

There are references to Mona in ME as a completed engine being run by it's builder but no constructional articles. perhaps this was one of those engines he covered in another magazine ? I believe he wrote for Practical mechanics as well.

Adding a snippet to John's stuff, there is a Gauge 1 Society.

Importantly, I have just googled it and suggest that you join and use their facilities to add to the information which John has already supplied

Martin,

I have an LBSC book for Mona:-

" A simple 0-6-2 inside cylinder tank engine based on a London, Chatham and Dover railway locomotive in three and a half and one and three quarter inch guages from a series which appeared in Model Maker"

The booklet was published by MAP in 1969. Specialist booklet No 3 at

10/6. The Gauge 1 has a single cylinder, slip eccentric gear and a water tube boiler, the 3 1/2 inch a variation of Hackworth radial gear and twin cylinders and is a coal burner.

I believe you can still get a reprint from TEE Publising.
