448 quid a ton.Up to the late 1960s, the world price for Cu was "fixed" at noon on the London Metal Exchange. They got so good at the "fixing" that Cu price went thro' the roof and, eventually the LME suspended their Cu price fix. Still suspended to this day. Guess that most of the old copper coin was melted down back then, I know that the Bank of England was a little dissapointed at the amount of old copper recovered after decimalisation. :)
