Bridgeport Problem

I am a silly billy. I accidentally left the traverse drive engaged and forgot about it. the table came up against the stop and the drive started to slip, I dont know for what period of time. It was longenough for the slip to become a permanat feature even when the bed is not up against a stop. The drive and gear box is one of the early with the change speed lever sliding up a slot and swinging into engagement at trhe appropriate slot. What I used to think of as a Norton type gearbox(not the motor bike type!) Sadly the photo copy of the hand book that I got from lathes.co.uk does not have an exploded diagram of the drive arrangement. I have removed the top plate whith the change speed lever on it - cant see the point of slippage there. I have removed the motor and the worm wheel appears well connected. I have removed the side plate with the hig/low knob on it and cant see where to go from there.

Can any body out there offer advice as to what to do next.

It was late and I was dropping tools when I gave up for the night! Andy Cawley

the shear pin has broken ...it's under the right hand side of the table ... one drive shaft goes inside the other and they are coupled together with the pin ...they are a close fit ...makes it possible for you to have some drive even when the pin has gone .. I use a copper roofing clout nail in there.
