It is kept alive by the certification companies that sprang up when the standard got published & the bandwaggon started to roll, and the client companies that still think it is a good idea. As someone else mentioned in this thread, many companies demanded ISO 9000 accreditation in order to do business with suppliers, and some still do. The more enlightened cos have by now figured out that it was mostly snake oil, smoke & mirrors anyway.
