installed M030, deleted F000, started it up and... big annoying LAG in model manipulation...
Downgrading as we speak.

This problem really rears its ugly head with big assemblies, in my opinion the highlighting of elements with the mouse-over is responsible for the lag. Esp. elements that are drawn in the dotfont are slow.
I was trying to install NVidias 6111 driver but this somehow failed every time, will compile a new 2.6.7 kernel to replace my current 2.6.4 one, maybe that'll help.
