what mobile gpu is the best for Pro/E

Hi,

I must buy a notebook and I can choose beetween those GPU :

- Ati mobility Radeo 9600 pro (128MB ddr)

- Nvidia FX go5600 (128MB ddr) (perhaps 5700, I'm not shure )

I did'nt find benchmarks of thoses GPU for OpenGL applications.

So, is there anyone have experiences on Pro/E or are there some benchs on the web to compare them and help me doing the better choice ? (The notebook will be a P4 3.4 HT with 1GB ddr pc 3200 Alienware)

Thanks, GB

GB,

Both are "game" chipsets, but the Nvidia is much better at dealing with professional level OpenGL. You'll have limitations on the number of windows you can have open with both chipsets. The ATI has lousy drivers and can cause all types of problems from repaint/refresh artifacts, to blue screen crashes.

Mark

Thanks,

It's game chipsets but it's really difficult to find something else. I'll go to Nvidia so. Thanks again. GB

Hio,

we use pro-e on nothing but laptops, a promedion with an ATI 9500 card, a dell 5150 with a nvidia gofroce FX go5200 and a dell 8600 with a nvidia 4600, Also, the ATI and the nvidia 4600 can be 'hacked' by using omega drivers, turning your laptop into a quadro box.

I prefer installing linux for pro-e (debian unstable/testing with

-selfcompiled vanilla- kernel 2.6.5, nvidia's 5336 X11 driver/module and XFCE4 desktop works like a dream !) but lately using WF M150 we experience no more artifacts in windows xp.

Thanks,

I've ordered geforce 5700. I'll see... I've tried Omega Driver on a Ti4600 desktop with XP. It seems to work a little bit better than lastest Nvidia driver. I haven't seen anything about turning into Quadro, I thought it wasn't possible since Geforce2.

Thanks, GB
