Darn, when I saw Boe-Bot, I guess I was hoping for an Adrian Barbaeu-bot.

Just be careful and get the part number right - you do NOT want the Tae- Bo bot!

I just checked with a local Radio Shack that had it in stock... I see that it is the serial version, and that is all they carry. My laptop (my main computer) is only equipped with a USB port.

Radio Shack's USB-to-Serial converter sells for $42... but I've had troubles in the past (a GPS and mapping program) with one converter because the software insisted on a real serial port.

Can anyone advise me about the praticality of using the serial version with the USB-to-Serial adapter.?

P.S. The local store says their sale price goes to 12/31 - but he didn't know about the rebate.

Just make sure to install the USB to Serial adapter on its own. This will fix any problems and the system shoudl recognize it as a geniune RS232 port.

Oh and Boe Bot has droped in price.... also check out the new VEX robotics kits.
