due diligence - invest in the research to know what is needed, wanted, and what the challenges might beit appears that since inception many policy decisions have been made, for whatever reasons, that over time proved to be overly restrictive or arbitrary. Some, like NFPA codes, are like a straitjacket that the organization itself helped sew.in the roots of these events, I suspect that often can discover that the personal bias of individuals, fear, or ignorance were contributing factorslet me suggest that committees of objectively qualified members be organized to conduct feasibility studies to allow rules, policies and operations to be researched, approved and developed in a sound manner, and with a view to the consequences.I don't propose to know how to select committee members, but I will suggest that they be standing committees, that acquire experience with the environment in which we have to function, so that both short and long term strategies can be developed and pursued.this would also enable us to move forward in a less reactive mode, as due diligence will be a continuous activityI will also state that full disclosure and oversight would be a necessary part of committee function, to insure integrity of action as well as member confidence. Keep in mind that it may be desireable to have committees recommendations go to a referendum vote by the general memberhip for adoption.comments?
