So "easy access" still exists? I am curious about who the documents are from.

Correct. The 62.5g "per motor" limit has not yet been made law.

The ATF for one. I have others just received but not yet read. Stay tuned.

Major confuzion. Another dealer that I know of won't sell anything more than a 1 grain Pro38 without a LEUP. While we're on the subject, do you have HAZMAT shipping charges on the Aerotech 29-40/120 reloads? Some dealers do and some don't.

Where did you get the impression that the ATF had eliminated 'easy access'?

Sounds like Giant Leap? Kevin(countdown) would not either up til apparently yesterday.

While we're on the subject, do you

Dealers who do not send thru parcel post service( 29-40/120 reloads) are probably not yet authorized to do so by USPS.

OK so now I'm totally confused...

We can now buy, but what about use? Intrastate/Interstate transportation??

I have a letter dated November 2002 in which an ATF agent states that his superior told him a J570 is not regulated by the ATF.

That's where I was a week ago until this info surfaced.

I think the E is legal by parcel post, but the F & G's aren't.

The USPS has very strict limits on what can be shipped. It MUST be classified as UN 1.4S. This limits propellant weight to no more than 30 grams. The F21 is 30 grams and USPS shippable, which Aerotech took advantage of in their advertisements for it. It seems that the Estes E9 is greater than 30 grams and cannot be shipped via USPS.

I think that some 29mm HPR reloads can be shipped via USPS because the individual grains are classed as 1.4S. Best check the Aerotech web site to be sure.

And specific written permission is required from the USPS by each and every person who ships.

You always could and still can purchase, transport and use motors with individually packaged grains

Thanks for that John... Just was wondering if it would be OK to fly J's at the September Invitational we have up here next month is all... I'm sorry but G80's just don't work for me ;-)

Steve, if you want to fly more than 'easy access' J's, find someone with a LEUP to supervise your use of the motor. They can do the transaction for you, be responsible for motor while you're prepping it, and make sure it's stored if you end up not flying it. I've done this for a couple people. There is a 'scenarios' document on the ATFE web site that shows this is allowed, and also my local agent said it was allowed. Your local contacts may have different interpretations.

Hi John,

Nope, all I want to do is fly Pro 38 J330's and below (2 and 3 grain Pro38's) Maybe some 'Easy Access' reloads for my Dr. Rockets casings, but nothing more than a J.

But I'm more confused than ever as Bob from Hangar 11 has just posted the he can only sell HPR reloads to LEUP holders according to what he has been told by the ATF.

I'm starting to get a migraine here!! Good job my Level 3 is going to be built arond Hypertek M!

He said he understands the law says it is legal but that he receives conflicting statements from hiis own ATF agents proffering illegal statements.

He should follow the law.

Until the rules are legally changed, Easy Access continues to be real.

NAR/TRA burried the BATFE with over SEVEN HUNDRED responses to their NPRM. Since each response is different, they have to respond to each one. Unlike the explosive industry that submitted 600 copies of a form letter that can all be dismissed with one response. Per Bunny, they considered 2-3 DOZEN responses to being swamped before...

It will take the BATFE a LONG time to deal with the comments we sent them. WHich should keep them off our butts for at least a little while longer. perhaps long enough for the legislation or legal action to resolve the issue for us.
