The fire began with a lightning strike back in July which smouldered until it broke open on the 14th of August. Most of the pix in the attached link were taken early on.
A windstorm on the afternoon of the 16th caused a real "blow up" with the fire running in several different directions - forcing the sudden evacuation of about 60 homes.
Much more information is available on the web. Just do a search for either "Montana Fires" or "Black Cat Fire". Altogether we now have 15 -20 fires burning across the state. Just one fire alone has burned as much acreage as the state of Rhode Island.
