NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - If the crouching, jagged Batmobile from the movie "Batman Begins" looks to you like the offspring of a Lamborghini Countach and a Hummer, congratulations. You hit the nail on the head.

When production designer Nathan Crowley was trying to conceive the car's look, he went to a hobby shop and bought 1:12 scale models of a Lamborghini Countach and a Hummer.

Crowley cut those two models apart and combined them, dropping in the cockpit from a model of a P-38 lightening.

"It looked awful," Crowley said. But it was a start, and it was headed in the right direction..........

Hmmm... While I have a model of 1:12 Countach (Otaki), I've never heard of a

1:12 model of a Hummer. Unless it was some RC model.

The plot thickens... :-) Peteski

Well the guy did say the first attempt looked awful. Not that I'm a big fan of the final result on screen. Than again I didn't like the Keaton Batmobile at first either, so there's hope yet.

Weellll, 21st Century toys does produce a 1/18 P-38, although it's not a kit.

I nearly bought one; it's HUGE. But I didn't have any place to put it.

Which reminds me: has anyone here ever considered getting one of the

21st Century planes (the list includes Warhawk, Corsair, Lightning, Avenger, and Stuka) and superdetailing it? The planes -as produced- are pretty darn nice, all things considered.

I have about 6 or so of the 1:18 planes, hanging from the garage ceiling. very cool. Great way to get the big kits and not pay Trumpeter prices. Hanging from the ceiling is just fine, no need for details. All covered with dust anyways.
