They retooled the kit after the first movie version.
The removeable engine was included in the Batmobile that came out in the "Batman Returns" (one with Catwoman and Penguin) movie. It was based on the scene when the Penguin accesses the Batmobile and implants all sorts of remote controls to crash Batman while he's driving.
