(Air) Book Review-Soviet Fighter Colors, 41 -45

Hi All:

"Soviet Air Force Fighter Colors, 1941 to 1945", by Eric Pilawskii, Classic Publications div. Of Ian Allen publishers. Hard cover, 224 pages. ISBN #1-903223-30-X. I picked this up at the Region 2 convention. If you want the definitive word on how to paint the Gavia Lavochins or the AM or ICM Yaks, this is the book for you. There is a list of the colors used and many, many color profiles and diagrams. However, it goes a lot farther than just colors. There is a good deal of political and technical history of the various fighters and what appear to be some very nice 1/72 scale drawings of all the important W.W.II types. There is also some thought provoking text, not only on colors but on the role and activities of the Soviet era fighter force in the "Great Patriotic War". In short, if you model Russian Fighters from "the big one", this is definitely a good book to have. It is listed at $56.95 U.S., but I got it from one of the dealers at Region 2 for $46. He had six copies when he arrived, I got the fifth one and he hadn't finished unpacking yet. They went fast.
