Parted with my £24.99 at Argos in Falkirk today and left the shop with a surprisingly big box (60cmx35cmx11cm) containing the Airfix version of the QMII kit. Presentation of the packaging is very good indeed, with a nice painting on the top and photographs of the ship's interior plus a cutaway drawing on the bottom.
Getting the kit home and taking off the shrink-wrap reveals a well-filled tray style box. Biggest single part, and not bagged, is the hull, moulded in black and measuring some 575mm long and 75mm in the beam. It's full hull but not one piece, as the forefoot with thrusters needs to be assembled separately and added. There are 5 white sprues, bagged together, and a separate and very large clear sprue. There are a lot of clear parts in this kit.
Completing the package are a 44 page, A4 sized instruction booklet, a
45mmx33mm decal sheet and a bag containing 25 small pots of 10 different Humbrol acrylic paint, a 12mm pot of acrylic gloss varnish, a tube of Humbrol cement and a tube of Clearfix. The instructions have 18 construction steps and a painting guide, together with sprue maps and technical information.
Looking at the construction, you can assemble the 2 movable engine pods so that they will swivel. There are 2 internal bulkheads that go all the way from the keel into the superstructure.
Impressions are that it looks like a complete, quality package at a very reasonable (UK) price, and that it's big! It will sit very well with the Academy Titanic.
