Inexpensive Sherman interior?

I'm doing a 1/35 diorama of an M4A3 75mm (from the Tamiya kit) face-to-face with an M7 Priest (Italeri) on a one lane road, with both crews checking their maps and arguing over which of them is lost. Since all the crew hatches on the Sherman will be open, I need some interior detail. I have been reluctant to shell out the bucks for a complete interior set when much of it won't be visible. OTOH, I don't think my references are sufficient for scratchbuilding, and I about had a heart attack when I saw how much the Hunnicutt book is selling for now. Any suggestions?

Ummm... close the hatches? Or fill them them with tankers? Remember, he who dismounts first is the loser. :-)

"C'm 'ere and look at this map." "No, you come here and look at mine." etc...

And then you can do a second one with the crews brawling in the roadway.

I have never been a creepy crawler guy, but today I got the Squander Shop Sherman Walk around book. It won't give you any parts, but it sure does give you a whole new and clear understanding of what both the interior and exterior looks like, with a clear guide to the (far to many) variations.

For $15.00 it is a great introduction to the Sherman.

I think I now can fill the cargo hold of my LCM.

I agree. Sounds like the focus of your diorama is the figures and the maps. No need to deal with the interior. Fill the scene with arguing tankers, torn maps over the hatches, etc.... sounds like a good dio.

Use the Verlinden Sherman interior - It's excellent and includes the turret and drivers / bow gunner compartments. It runs about $27.00 retail.
