I haven't been able to find one yet at the online shops. Among the few 1:24 airplanes I've found, there are a few Spitfires, but these seem to be early marks (with Merlins). If no Griffon models exist, could a Merlin be made 'close enough'? All I really want is the engine (or actually, two of them, for a tractor puller), but I'd have no problem buying an aircraft kit if it came with a good, detailed engine.

I think the Griffon was developed from the Merlin & a number of parts are interchangable. I recall reading in mags like Air Classics where guys doing warbird restorations & air racers swap out Merlin heads on Griffons & vice-versa. The Griffon is a bulkier engine tho & I think it has about 2000 - 2200 CID as opposed to the Merlin's 1650 CID. Which, when spread among 12 cylinders, 400 - 600 or so CID isn't that much more.
