Revitalizing dry transfer lettering

Hi there

Is there any way to revitalize old dry transfer lettering?

I have some sets that refuse to give up their letters no matter how hard I rub it with a ball point pen.

Is there hope or should I just pitch them?

Pitch them. The transfer coating has degraded.
