I like this one. It's a shame Modelzone in Croydon has gone a bit more corporate now that they've moved as this would have been right up their street in the old place for the shop window. Each day you could shift the characters such as having a dog piss up against one of the Spitfires wheels, then next day get it to be in love with the sergeants leg and just move the characters around and put a few different coloured paint strokes on the Spit' then put splashes of paint on their faces and uniforms, put curtains on the Spit's cockpit, etc. On the final day just have them in a group, arms in the air with a bunch of Nazi's surrounding them.

There is a lot to be made out of the slightly different diorama. Gibson's dog being bought back to the guardroom on a shovel for instance.

- and arguing about it. That would be *perfect* - "telling a story" on two levels - the summer of 1940, and the modelling of that scene; breaking the fourth wall, so to speak. If only my figure painting and scenic skills weren't so bad . . .

My answers were given to help out the original poster with his question. I have no problem with posters who find the obsession with "correct colours" to be dull. We all share a pride in completing a model to our own standards - "I did that" - I find that the painting is such a large part of the appearance of the finished item that I concentrate on it, but I make no claims that my approach is "better" than anyone elses.

No criticism implied or intended - I was just putting something back in to balance some of the excellent help I've had from this newsgroup.

Even the judges minds are subjective to whether the colour is (exactly?) right or not. Research is helpful and it wouldn't surprise me if the paint suppliers made their empire from large military contracts and may well be around to this day. All one needs to do is ask and very often the big boys soak up requests from us little guys. You never know, they might send the colour fanatic a full tin of the stuff.

As to the codes, it goes for Lancasters as well so don't tell anyone or this could go on forever. The original poster could contact these boys.

And if they're in the UK they could actually join and give a hand as new young blood is always needed. I'm not saying that it gets you into air bases to special airshows where others couldn't get in but those are the benefits. The other benefit is that there is a lot of information at hand and you never know, you might come across someone who serve with 610 squadron!
