I haven't tried airbrushing it yet, but for brush application in small areas, I like it. If you paint small figures, it behaves very well.

It all depends on what you intend with it. For airbrushing entire models? It is probably no better than Tamiya, etc...BUT, being more pricey... might be a consideration.

For brush painting figures, or details on a vehicle/aircraft, it is VERY nice.

Do a "google" on "Mario Fuentes", "Doug Cohen", and "Raul Latorre". Each has had on-line "how-to's" on brush painting with Vallejos.

While I like it in general (there are some lovely flesh tones in the range), I find it does not grip at all well to metal figures and parts, and needs a LOT of thinning or else it chips easily and badly.

Are you priming the metal first? (Any cheap automotive spray primer will suffice). Very few "brush-on" acrylics will adhere well to unprimed metal, especially when you consider the handling that models experience.

And for using acrylics to paint figures, thinning is usually a necessity. LOTS of thinning. Since you can not really do "blending" like you can in oils, one usually has to paint using the "glazing" or "layering" technique. This requires a lot of thinning; sometimes requiring up to a dozen or more of very thin, translucent color coats; to achieve the desired result.

Ironically, I have never been satisfied with any of Vallejos "flesh" colors. As a base coat, I like color #803 "Brown Rose", and work within that when mixing my shading and highlighting colors (often also incorporating the use of Grumbacher WaterColours).

Their Model Air paints spray beautifully, cover completely in one thin coat and stick like glue.

Hi

Many thanks, very helpful. I'll try them.

I would Use it for small areas and "washes" over Tamiya acrylic with brushes.

Here is Mario Fuentes' EXCELLENT tutorial on using Vallejos. This was original printed in two parts, in "Historical Miniatures" magazine. Those of you who attended the "Austin Scale Modelers Society" show a few years back, will recognize the "Best Of Show" winning Celt figure.

I was using Vallejo's own primer which, ironically, people tell me isn't such a good choice! I also don't spray at all (nor do I use enamels, thanks to the fumes). I've switched to Lifecolor (although I see Hannants has a new range, 'Aircraft Colours' which I'll investigate).

.....for those of us in the UK - does anyone know of any shops that sell Vallejo Paints - preferably in Suffolk (England) but anywhere in the UK would be a help.

Thanks
