Can I use one weldment model for different materials

I would like to be able to use the same weldment model for both carbon steel and stainless steel. In other words, have two seperate cut lists based on configurations.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Using SW2007

Thanks in advance.

I thought that would work too, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I have a weldment cut list, but it seems to only work with one set of materials. Do I make additional children off of the machined configurations?

You will need to use suppression states in your different configs to delete the bodies that are not of the same material. If you use this method, I would suggest creating a master, or default configuration that has all of the weldment parts in it, and child config's with different suppresion states.

I was using this same technique this morning to send some components to a laser cutter. I created a config "Lasercut" and deleted the bodies I didn't want that supplier to send me, ie, RHS, and Barstock parts.

In reality, you can weld different materials together, and use different materials for the filler also. Solidworks doesn't have the functionality to do this properly yet. The weldment features are improving, so fingers crossed for the future...

Thanks for the input. I'll play with it a bit and see if it works for me. My concern is that it will be complicated to support. But it might be simpler than maintaining seperate files for each material.
