External Threads

How do I place external threads on a shaft?

Loading thread data ...

short answer is a sweep with a helix as your path. Make sure the profile protrudes into the shaft a little to allow for random wobbling along the path.

Have you ever used the knowledge base on the SW website? There used to be a good article on this subject there.

good luck

In the orthographic views, isos, assemblies or what? is the shaft larger than one inch? Threads are usually designated by thread specification notes. Did you want to actually model them, usethem as a constraint or what?

You have defined threads in the context of modeling them. The problem is that the OP did not define any context with his/her question.

Sorry, been out of the office... I want to create threads on a a shaft in a 3d model. Cosmetic is good enough. Also, when I make these threads in the model, does the drawing portion of SW2008 call these out with info from the model or do I have to specify them myself?
