how do I animate just the moving parts of an assembly?

Sep 27, 2004 4 Replies

I'm trying to create an animation of the moving parts within and assembly, not the whole thing.

By which I mean, taking for example the online tutorial model samples\tutorial\assemblymates\ujoint.sldasm

I want to animate showing the handle turning, driving the u joint movement, not revolve the whole assembly as the tutorial gives you.

How do I do that ?

thanks

You need to create "Path Points" instead of using the wizard.

Thanks for that info.

But, how do I make it run smoothly?

I'm using the ujoints.sldasm from the tutors, trying to animate the handle through 1 360 deg rev. When I set a few points around the circle, it seems to animate oddly, back and forward around some before moving to the next, not what I would expect. Do I need to set dozens of path points? I'd hope not for such a simple sounding task...

Ah yes, I remember that problem. I think the solution (thanks Matt Lombard) was to make sure that the knob was fully defined. As I recall, it's mated so that it spins on it's center. Just mate a plane parallel to the handle so it doesn't spin.

Make the path points with the knob selected.

It should only take a few points.

Thanks for that Mike.

I couldn't seem to get a mate from the round know to the flat handle. However, armed with that knowledge, I was able to use the handle to define the the path and all was well with the world.

Cheers!
