This is the official list, though there may be some newer cards out which has not made the list, you can obtain comparisons from various other sources, which I'm sure the following replies will mention.

Hi Keith,

I've looked at that list and it's too long! I'm looking for a review site where someone has weeded out the chaff. Lots of review sites arn't dated (!) and you realize too late it's from 2 years ago.

Another idea maybe to look at a competitors (Autodesk, PTC, UG) required specifications, narrow your criteria down to a card or two, do a web search on them or post for reviews on those specific cards in this newsgroup

You still have to start with the SW list. You can weed out anything that doesn't work with your OS. I doubt very much if you will find a review of video card performance with SW unless you look at SPECapc results. The only other place you will find opinions by real users is on the various fora for SW like this one, Eng-Tips, snipped-for-privacy@googlegroups.com, etc. For reviews on particular cards look at http:

I personally have never quite gotten a handle on what the big attraction is to video cards. Yes, I can tell the difference between an ATI Rage and an FX3000. But the difference between my 500XGL and an FX3000 is harder to pickup on. I am more concerned about video driver stability and compatibility with SW. I've always been shackled by CPU performance and have always thought that is more important. In the end a balanced system is my goal. If I had a choice it will be Quadro, but that is more from familiarity and knowing they work well. I have used Wildcats and some other not so mainstream cards and they worked well too. There are people who have good luck with FireGL cards. But again it is the CPU/mobo that will make or break the system.
