Referenced read only files?

With our current and old 2D/ACAD file system we have project folders and inside each is a 'RELEASED DRAWINGS' folder which is write-protected to "prevent" undocumented changes.

Problem is when any of these parts/assy's are used an another active project- when I press 'Save' I get a message asking "Save the doc and the referenced models now?" Yes-No. I select Yes, then I get the 'Save As' or 'Save As Copy' options for the write-protected files, a real pain with large assemblies.

Is there a way to get SWX to ignore write-protected files? Or some other way around this?

We're looking at PDM but that won't be an option for a while yet.

Thanks

Go to Tools/Options/Ext references and check "Ignore changes to read-only references" or something like that.

Go under Tools Options External References and check Open referenced documents with read-only access and also check Don't prompt to save read-only referenced documents.

I think that is what you are looking for.

Yes it seems to be, thanks. I changed the "Don't Prompt" setting, but wasn't sure about the first, "Open Referenced Doc's with Read-Only Access", what does this mean?

It means that all the files the assembly is referencing are opened as read-only. It is used when want to access files concurrently. In other words if you have an assembly opened that has PART1 in it I would be lock out from opening it in my assembly. If you need to modify the part in the assembly you can always right-click on it and select Reload and uncheck the read-only. You will then have right access to it.

This check box also applies to drawings. When you open a drawing it opens the file that it is referencing as read-only.

Also from the assy, hit "Edit part" button and it will ask you "Do you want write access" and will tell you if it's available.
