Hi there, has anybody of you out there ever used SW for architectural purposes (designing houses etc.)? If yes - are there any architectural part-libraries available?

I've done a little with SolidWorks and architecture. You could try a site called

There is some stuff there. It may be better to build your own however. You could easily build one window or door or fixture and then use a design table to have a range of sizes.
I've used it to do planning drawings for my house and other extensions, but it can get a bit fiddly when doing 2d plans.
The builders around here just want outline dimensions and then they get on with it direcktly (which is cornish for maniana)
If the 2d drawings are are simple it is often quicker with a pencil and paper ! Luck I still have a drawing board !
This all assumes you are not a fan of the " Frank Gehry" school of architecture. :-)
For windows etc, once you have chosen your manufacturer for doors, glazing systems, windows, flooring systems etc, it is best just to model them using the manufacturers 2d drawings which are often available on the web.
If you just want to do plan layouts of interiors then

is a good simple programme.
It has a lot of built in sizes for bits and pieces that you could use to model 3d shapes.
