I just bought Accurail HO kit number 5704 which is a 50' welded panel AAR boxcar with a single 8' yellow sliding door . However, it is numbered SSW 61030. It appears that SSW 61000-61142 is part of the B-70-32 class which are hi cubes with 10'6" doors. I was wondering just how accurate this model is and can it be fixed with a number change to put it in it's proper class, whatever that is? TIA. Byron

Byron, do yourself a favor... Get rid of that Accurail toy car, and save your money to buy the upcoming SP and SSW prototype box cars (4 physically different models) that Athearn is bringing out in the Genesis line. They will be 100% accurate and beautiful to look at.
As far as I know, neither SP nor SSW operated 50 foot single door cars with yellow doors. They did have combination (plug & sliding), double sliding, and double plug door cars with one yellow door on each side.
That Accurail 50 foot single 8' door box is based on the old Front Range tooling of an ACF welded box car. I don't think SSW bought any of those particular cars. They did have some 50 foot PS-1 style box cars with
8' doors. Now, T&NO bought a bunch of 50 foot single door cars in the late 1950's that do match the Accurail/Front Range model. They were classes B-50-44 and B-50-47. Here is a link to a B-50-44

Just remember -- if it's Accurail, you can be pretty sure it's not accurate!
