Could they be on drugs ?

Here it goes again, maybe it's me that doesn't understand but as of this post it's 7 days left and it's up to $400 +.

I wouldn't pay the $50 shipping cost fopr that crap.

What am I missing this time ?

I don't understand why everyone's getting so bent over these auctions (weird as they may be). Put yourself in the *seller's* shoes: that's pretty good money. (Notice that they went out of their way to explain that a lot of this stuff was not working and badly in need of restoration: it's not like they're trying to con buyers or anything.)

There are two kinds of 'model railroad' people: people who really run trains on a layout (and spend time arguing about DC vs DCC and babbling about the mystery of Ohm's Law and LEDs and resistors and the color of bricks and mortar so on) and those that have glass-fronted cases of trains (often what the other types would consider 'junk'). The people who run their trains also do things like smear dark pastel chalks and/or lightly spray paint grimy black paint on their trains in a deliberate attempt to make them *look* like crap (and thus look like the the grime covered, paint peeling, dusty, 12" to the foot smoke belching models pounding their way back and forth across the countryside). Whereas the collectors are busy dusting and polishing their collection making them look as shiny and new as they did coming out of the factory, even when that factory was some cheap stamp molding join in Taiwan or someplace).

Some people simply like collecting trains and sometimes... all the models and road names in the manufacturers catalog. One that doesn't have a lot of money to spend for the more expensive ones will sometimes go for the lower/lowest priced models. They get a lot of pleasure from this and in that case, the auction has a wealth of nice items. I suppose the bid price is a bit high, but the price per item is low.

Especially since it says in the description:

They sparked and some of the lights came on but they would not budge.

and limped along at a snails pace. So if your expecting these to zip around

your into lubing the motor, cleaning the contacts and wheels for better pickup,

shells are in very good shape and even that blue metal B&O steam engine &

engines are also real heavy and look nice but a little dusty; maybe you can revive

I guess I'm trying to make sure that I'm not missing something and at the same time admitting my stupidity at throwing out a bunch of crap That I was SURE no one would even pay the shipping on much less bid on.

Foolish me for dumping that tyco in the trash.

Well, let me sit down and calculate this out. about 200 freight cars at $3.00 each, $600

80 locos at about $10.00 each, $800 Misc track and other stuff rough guess $100 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ That totals up to $1500

That is eBay prices so there is no real discounting. A fair chunk of change and I'll bet that that price won't be met unless somebody goes beserk. Anything over $2K would be a bit excessive.

Look at the bidder who is "winning" lennox098's feedback of (3). That includes 20 f/b's from the same seller who is selling this lot,

7876alan. I didn't look at all of them, but several of the most recent auctions have been ended early for this buyer.

7876alan says this stuff is from a collection of 5000 trains. (God, I hope this isn't what my stuff looks like when I pass on!!!)

And another weird thing is that the other competing bidder, fedello, seems to normally buy high end german trains - look at his feedback. Why would he bid on this old toy grade stuff?!

Finally, our friend lennox098, last bought a small pile of old Atlas brass snap track for a very high price.

This has the makings of a mystery with our three players.

Thanks for putting this in perspective. Nothing like actual figures for a reality check.

Yeah, must be some kind of conspiracy, for sure. Maybe he's trying to corner the market on brass snap track.

I *still* say there's heroin in them cars and locos!

I say Professor Plum in the garage with snap track thinks he's getting a wonderful Christmas gift for his grandon ?

( still, I had a box of Tyco and AHM cars, ((about 30 of them)) and actually could not GIVE them away. I hated to throw things like that in the trash.

We still have about 30 boxes on MR, sorted by year and couldn't get anyone to haul them away. I offered them to a guy who lost all of his magazines in the Katrina flood for free and he didn't want them.

We we put a box out on a table at the Christmas show people will pay a buck a piece for them. All I want is to make some room.

EBay auctions like this is a wonderful way to launder money. Why does it have to be a mystery?

Hey! I resemble that remark. But I fit into both categories.... That makes me really weird? Hmmm....just as I suspected! :-)

Even though I buy and sell items on eBay, I also spend a big chunk of my eBay time watching various auctions and being amused by the results. It is truly mind-boggling sometimes. But it is free and harmless fun. I guess that I like to watch.... :-)

Nothing wrong with that. I do it myself sometimes.

God! does that stuff ever bring back a rush of memories. Trips to the hobby shop with my paper route money. Looking over all this stuff in the local supermakets (yes this stuff was all over the place). $$ stickers were so much smaller as well. Jeesh. I used to snub my nose at half this stuff but how it brings back memories. Some of it I had on my first layout... sigh... (some of it I still have.... albiet kitbashed )

Price is up to $405 with 5 days left. It may make the $1500 or so.
