Huckleberry RR Railfan's Weekend

On Saturday, August 12th and Sunday, August 13th, the 25th Annual Railfans Weekend will be held at Crossroads Village and the Huckleberry Railroad just north of Flint, MI.

Huckleberry is real 3' gauge steam railroad operated by the Genesee County Parks. The line is 4.5 miles long, with a reurn loop at both ends, giving a nine mile ride.

This year, for the first time in MANY years BOTH of HRR's TWO steam engines will running for the weekend. Recently shopped Rio Grande K-27 "mudhen" #464 will be temporarily renumbered as #453 and have a 'dog house' added to it's tender (as is correct for #453). Huckleberry #2, the Baldwin 4-6-0, will be repainted and numbered historically as US #152, with is the number the locomotive carried when it was in service in Alaska for the U.S. Government.

On both Saturday and Sunday, the last regularly scheduled trains will be pulled by a double header. On Saturday evening (only), there will be to be two separate trains running 'extra' for the annual Photo Run.

Also featured are tours of the railroad shops, and various historical exhibits.

In addition to the Hucklebery railroad exhibits, there will be 10 operating modular scale model railroad layouts, including two 'live steam' layouts, displayed in the adjoining historic Crossroads Village.
