Trix: HO Scale - quality and accuracy

I am looking at the TRIX website and their many AMERICAN freight car offerings.

1) Can some of you share an opinion on the quality of their cars when compared to Intermountain or Kadee since they are comparably priced to these two manufacturer's equipment?

2) Are their paint schemes truly accurate or somewhat enhanced for aesthetic purposes?

3) Is there a visual downside [a modeler's acceptance pole] to the use of the Kadee #18 coupler as being shown on the Trix boxcars/reefers?

And, regarding the BIG BOY, aside from the sound feature, has anyone compared the Trix "Big Boy" to the new and improved Rivarossi "Big Boy"?

Thanks! Matt

Trix is the two rail DC version of Marklin.

Rugged, good quality, but IMHO a bit over priced for what you get.

Marklin/Trix makes high build quality toy trains. They have several significant inaccuracies when compared to their prototype however.

For a more detailed description of their many shortcomings subscribe to The Steam Era Freight car list.

The prototypes are Union Pacific equipment. Some schemes are accurate or close. Anything that isn't UP isn't accurate. There might be one or two exceptions.

It's better than Rivarossi but it has some dimensional problems especially with wheel diameters. It's not dead on.

That is meaningless. It can be a piece of junk and MR will give it a good review. They always gush on and on pointing out all the good things and then might mention the bad in passing.

The coupler mountings just generally look funny reguardless of what coupler is mounted. They are designed for some sort of European hook. A friend of mine bought the whole set including the caboose and as a set they don't look too bad. Somehow the difference when they they are mixed with other equipment is what attracts the eye and begins to look funny.
