Cylinder Head Studs

Sep 22, 2004 1 Replies

Hi

I need to replace the cylinder head studs on my Ruston APR 2 1/2hp as the old ones have been stretched.

They are 1/2" Whitworth which I can easily make on my lathe but I don't know what grade material I should use or if I should harden them.

Can anyone advise me on this.

Regards

Liam

Liam,

Cant go wrong with EN8 steel I would say, but dont harden them ! I dare say EN3B would be fine also (Mild Steel) - This is the grade we used for my boiler studs...

Just my thoughts...
