Internal Fire at Easter

Gentlemen,

I have just spent four excellent days at IF playing with engines etc, the lads managed to get the Pelapone up and running with the aid of a Petter air-cooled diesel and a forklift truck :-)), the BIG Ruston is one puff away from starting and with a little bit of fettling will be running very soon. There was only one little problem with the weekend, it was bloody freezing and apart from I think four of us the rest were dropping like flies with a collective bug. I delivered a load of oil and a telephone exchange for Paul using Peter Forbes trailer. when I had loaded the van full of stuff I noticed to flats on both rear tyres so took the van to have the pressures checked only to find they were correct. took it steady as did not want to draw attention as I may have been a tad over weight. Dan Howden and myself took a ride into Cardigan to fetch our tea Friday night in his newly acquired van and got pulled by the local police for driving a possible stolen vehicle, after a game of twenty questions which Dan one on every point we left a satisfied constable who new more about Dan than Dan did to go about our business. There again two men in overalls and woolly hats on a dark night he must have thought he was on a winner :-))

It sounds like an excelent weekend Martin. I'm glad you had a good time and that Dan managed to fool the local fuzz. I'm sorry I couldn't make it this year but house work took priority (the plasterer arrives this Friday and I'm not yet ready for him). I wouldn't have thought a couple of tins of oil and a telephone exchange were that heavy. Then again, Paul doesn't do small stuff! Talking of telephones, I've got a box of them here for Paul if anyone's going that way from Oxfordshire/Berkshire area. Failing that, I may be at Enstone in 4 weeks. If I could meet anyone there who's a tad closer to IF it might help.

John,

Peter's trailer had two 9ft x 4 ft, 3/8th x 4 inch angle, frames with kit attached, four chaps to lift each frame, and the Van was half full with switches, ringer motors and other heavy lumps. Also 30 gals of oil is not light. Came home with three Lister D's one complete, one not so complete and bits of one.

I shall be at Enstone (deo volante). If I can carry anything for anyone, I shall be off to Kent straight from Enstone then home to Bristol on Sunday evening.

I've a 5 Series BMW estate & will not have a trailer with me.

Great to see the Pelapone running for the first time in public on Monday. Very pretty, & unusual. Even the sun shone & the wind dropped in acknowledgment.

Super to see so many of the trusted band of volunteers getting stuck in from Friday -- long may you enjoy such dedication, & get the rewards of friendship from it. I just marvel at how such folk achieve partner-control in a way that I cannot begin to emulate .......

The event brochure describes what Paul & Hazel have in plan for the immediate future -- no less than another large shed, plus restoring another few giant engines as light relief. The team's productivity is truly amazing, 'tho must be getting near time for Paul & Hazel (& Keith) to take things considerably easier. Important to be able to enjoy the fruits of one's labours.
