Bachmann 2005

We now know Hornby's intentions for better or worse (better in my case with the Stanier coaches presumably to the same high standard as the Gresleys). Does anyone know anything about Bachmann's? Or when they might be telling anyone?

They aren't overly quick about updating their website with the info from memory although it presently reads 'What's new for 2005' with a list of their new releases for 2004. Wait, maybe that's not so wrong after all...(MK I Pullman, Mk IIs, shocvans, etc)

The only clue apparently was a mention of 2 new "Southern Region" locomotives in their steam range. This has resulted in speculation in things such as a U 2-6-0 (which was built by the Southern Railway, pre-nationlisation) to a 9F 2-10-0 (which were all over the place, and none were built further south than Swindon).

Gresleys).

Why are you worried about their 2005 production, they have yet to achieve their 2004 production. What chance that I will ever get a B1. With Bachmann it seems to be totally ignore their catalogue and buy what ever turns up in the shops when ever it turns up.

Whether they've achieved the whole of their 2004 range or not, the number of totally new models they've got into production is absolutely amazing compared with what Hornby announced and achieved.

Well, its more to do with whether I buy and (try to) build that kit, or if I save my pennies to get a Bachmann version.

What are you specifically waiting for?

Loco-wise if it's the Hall then it's due anytime, in fact some were expected before Christmas but didn't materialise, whilst the Ivatt 2-6-0 is also due for delivery early in the New Year.

I'm not specifically waiting for anything. I'd rather not spend my money on a kit only for Bachmann to announce they are to produce the same thing.

Other than being 'designed' by Brighton Works....

Any clue as the fate, or otherwise, of the Mk1 Pullmans - just the thing to go with the A1 & A4 classes not to mention the Deltic's. :~)

[ me, I'm hoping that they take the brave step and release them in BR (Pullman) corporate silver and grey ]

I e-mailed baachmann a just after warley and was told the Ivatt is not due till May!

Still, more time to save for two now!

Before Christmas our rep said it was tooled and would be in production shortly. He indicated early 2005 availability.

Having seen what looked like a finished model at Warley, the sooner the better for me. It looked the best Steam loco from Backman yet to me, lets hope it arrives early,

Despite being in total blue diesel mode this is likely to be the first 'kettle' I DCC chip - it's a cert I'll have one.

Its a good thing they havn't released all of the 2004 range, as they are still listing Mk2S BSO's as Brake Open Seconds (correct) and Brake Corridor Firsts (eh?) while having correctly also listed BFKs.

The K3 is not selling well if eBay is anything to go by. Two factory weathered examples (late crest) failed to reach their cost price of £76.95. One dealer (Ray Mansfield) has taken to weathering his own (early emblem) and selling them for £65. I suspect the B1 will be delayed even further so that stocks of unsold K3's can be sold.

They are certainly selling well in my shop and more would have sold if Bachmann would get their finger out and let me have some more stock.

Why would you expect them to sell above the £76.95 recommended retail price when they are still notionally available from Bachmann (when they get their silly season stock check out of the way)?

Can't believe any model manufacturer would stock-take right bang in the middle of the busiest time of year for model sales, Surely June or July would make much more sense.

Oh, and that proves something does it, other than people just aren't using (the fraudsters friend) eBay....

Some dealers have always offered that sort of service, it and stock level of a previous (un related) model has never altered commercial production plans in the past, there are just to many other factors involved.

...and your shop is in which corner of the country? :o)

The weathered late-crest version is only available to collector's club members and is limited to one per member. None has yet reached the price members paid for it whereas the weathered Class 37/0 has sold for double the typical retail price of the unweathered version. Farish's limited edition "Pride of Toton" has not sold that well either.

It makes me laugh does this obsession with so-called *collectability*. If any modeller wants a weathered late crest version then there's nothing stopping him buying a standard production model and waving an airbrush or aerosol at it.

No-one has any right to expect to be able to buy a model off the shelf or indeed direct from Bachmann and immediately sell it for a profit. That some have done so in the past is purely down to the idiocy of some people with more money than sense.

He makes me laugh Ray Mansfield, he did some sort of giesle injector mould or so he claimed and stuck them on a hornby BOB and wanted something daft like £125 for it on e-Bay, trouble is the model he chose never had the conversion done so it was totally wrong. He might have well as such anti aircraft guns on the tender too and said thats where they got the BoB names from!!

I baught one in here in Wales, to pull my one new Gesley! Trouble is a bar fell off the model after 5 mins use so I just had to change it! I will be weathering my one too, dont know weather they were generally very dirty or not when in use in 1960+?

I presume the stock check is what is holding the Halls, TTa's and other new stock up from retailers?
