DCC starter gen?

anyone recommend a good DCC setup for a returning enthusiast

going to be used on a 8x1 terminus layout with a max of 4 locos but needs to be expandable :) big plans for a 40x40 4 track oval in the pipe line along with a few branch lines a TMD, Coaching stock depot, and a few others all being built section by section

oh yeah its all going to be bachmann to start with

Cl 37's x2 Cl 04 x1 Cl 08 x umpteen

with maybe a couple of 20's and a lima 26 or 3

Phil: They are bringing out 2 DCC starter sets - one with a Class 25, a few wagons, and a specially produced (with Lenz) 10-loco controller.

The other set will contain an 0-4-T and an 0-6-0T (can't identify them - one looks 'Thomas like' in a picture - but they don't have a licence for that in the uk ( a blue 0-4-0T )

The sets will contain 'uk geometry' (ie Hornby radii) track

thanx for the info phil but need something a bit more um capable

vaguely remember when i left the hobby in my teens there was a DCC controller being banded about in Railway modeller looked class proper handle power controller brake etc etc was just around the birth of dcc

any gen on something similar and i need it to be capable of more than 10 locos

have a mad idea for a scaled down version of craigentinny coaching stock depot on one side of the loft and motherwell tmd on the other so probably talking at least 40-50 locos and dmus'

You can't go wrong with the Lenz Compact

a cable starter and then you could upgrade to either the Set 90 or Set 100 and still use the compact.

Phil: you specified 4 locos -- that's less than the 10 the Bachmann/Lenz controller will do. ALSO it can be expanded to control more, and probably usable as a handset for a more advanced set because it includes Lenz's Expressnet bus.

You are provably referring to ZTCs controller which has monthly double page ads in Model Rail - buy a copy? - or visit the website at ZTCcontrols.com But the Bachmann will be a much cheaper way of starting - its almost a give away.. I'm thinking of a set for a spare / test circuit (my AC electrics/overseas stock)

They will be offering modules for 7.95 apparently - with 2 light/function outputs which is 1 more than the Maccoder (also designed by Lenz). There may be details of a 'GreatBritish Decoder on the ZTC site.

They will probably be at the large scale show in Reading next weekend too.

eeek ZTC pricey stuff lol

cant exactly hide 800 quids worth of control gear and decoders on the credit card bill

no amount of explaining will convince the wife that it was for the cars service :)
