I'm building a GWR Large Metro Tank engine for a friend and I'm getting close to the painting stage. I've been told that the tops of the tanks on GWR tank engines were painted black. Can anyone confirm or refute this? I can't find enough reference material to settle this question and as I'm not generally a British outline modeller I don't want to commit a glaring blunder.
I'm also trying to find out what livery was used by the Manchester Ship Canal Company specificallly on their "Canal" class 0-6-0 engines. Any help or guidance on these 2 questions would be appreciated.
