Warley

How early do people start queuing? We arrived outside hall 1 at 9.05am and were ushered into a new queue on a ramp. We thought we were around the first in the queue but there about 200 in front of us queuing outside the doors! When the doors open I walked straight in (with the flow) not being asked for a ticket, so wasted £6.50p there! Bachmann stand. Relatively civilised swaying to get to the front, ish. The only shoving/pushing came when people who had bought were trying to get away from the front. What was annoying was several people staying at the front for the 20 minutes I queued passing models (all diesels) back to friends several places behind us and so cheating the queue. Serves Bachman's right for not sorting a decent queue system out as I saw 2 class 37 disappear for no money! When I got near to the front the prices did not impress me. Std 4 tanks at £44 when I pick then p new for about £51, std 5 loco for £60 when they are only £68 new, 56xx for £31 when only £38 new, will not bother wasting time there again I was wondering if anyone knows why so many std 4 tanks were there as seconds. When we left the show around 5 pm there were still many (30+) std

4tanks there, plus quite a few of std . So what was wrong with the std 4? Good selection of trade stand, seems more than layouts. Lots of good bargains around if you looked, Merchant Navy for £50 new! Hornby live steam. £500???Totally unimpressed. Sueth smoke units look better (I actually saw nothing coming out of the chimney stack) and if you want the steam smell put the kettle on, you can also have a cup of tea this way! Keen floating systems demonstrating an excellent way to overcome the crappy hornby coupling on the Pullman coach. Too many N gauge layouts there and not enough 00. Some nice ones there but allot were slow and not holding crowds for long due to inactivity! some nice 0 gauge for the short sighted!

All in all a much better show than last year, good trade, more room to move around with kids getting to the front of layouts unhassled. More 00 for next year though please.

big snip..................

How many 00?

Looking at the web site count there should have been :-

4mm X 20 7mm X 12 2mm X 13 layouts plus narrow gauge etc.etc.............

We don't all have the same interests.......... I think the balance was just about right. Something for everyone. The aisle width was much better in Hall

1, plenty of room to get around, although the more popular layouts were, as expected, too busy to get near earlier in the day. (This was Sat.) By mid/late afternoon it was possible to wonder around and get to see anything. I am sure that I missed seeing quite a lot. The missus and I are wondering about a 2 day ticket for next year!

We were well impressed with the quality of the layouts. I actually sat myself down at a couple of the brass kit demo tables and the guys manning these were excellent. Always walked by before, but found out quite a lot of good stuff. Spent too much so the trade must have been OK as well!

Definitely one of the best shows that I have --ever-- visited.

Couldn't make the show. What 'new' Bachmann diesels were for sale? Were there any Deltics or 44's etc?

Thanks.

There were a small number of class 44 (I think) on sale Saturday. No deltics although there were display versions (class 20 to) which looked good.

I've just got back home from warley and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Hornby class 50 was everything I hoped it would be. I'm now looking for ward to the release of the Bachmann Deltic, and class

  1. I also had a very good chat with the chap who was doing the EM gauge trackwork demo, and managed to help me a lot with my first EM gauge excursion.

Also had a good chat to the people of the C and L finescale stand, who were very helpful.

Looking forward to next year already.

Rob.

There was a small number of the class 44 for sale, shame they forgot the exhaust port on the roof though!

I think Bachman have a lot to answer for. Every year this happens. All they have to do is make the 'bargain' area bigger!!

Now, back to the pushing. You said there was pushing when people tried to get away from the stand.

How many did you hit?

One thing I can't stand, and would hit anyone who did it, is someone who gets to the front and keeps the place while he passes things back to his mates.

Really annoying.

Absolutely no queue at the door whatsoever when I trotted into the NEC at 11.20am :o) Takes a while to get up to International from West Norfolk, even if I get the 7am train.

I wasn't interested in the seconds stuff on the...

so arriving well after opening time wasn't an issue. Didn't fancy any mis-shapen tractors, for which people were still in heavy queues at about 2pm, making it awkward to get to the REx and Heljan stands to see what their plans were and their display models.

Bit of a push & shove at most trade stands, still managed to part with some money. Best bit was going home from the show on trains packed with lovely young ladies who'd been to the Clothes Show. :-D

I enjoyed that part of the show too - just don't tell the wife or she'll try to stop me going to Wigan on Sunday!
