Hello fellows,
I need some help to buy a welding machine that I'll be using to build a
45' steel boat here in Brazil.
To start, let me explain that I will be using the following plate thickness (inches) in this project: 1/8 to 3/4 , but most of the job will be done in 5/32" and 5/16" (very small amount will be done in
3/4", less than 0.5% of the project), and I would like to buy the welder in USA and bring it in my luggage. I will use this welder to weld some light stainless steel tubes and plates.
Well, I almost had already decided to go for a Lincoln SP-175 Plus welder, but one question came to me: with this welder, specifically in my project, I will be using almost all the time a Flux-cored wire, which is more expensive, and problably some multiple-passes, so what is the next powerful machine? The answer is Lincoln Power MIG 215. But hey! Its weight is 140lbs more than SP-175 Plus !!! Why this beast weights so much? Transformer? The case? Well...
My end question, and most iportant: is it possible to disassemble the welder and detach the transformer, other heavy parts and, at the end, try to distribute the weight "evenly" in 2 luggages?
Thank you for your time!
Regards, Gustavo
ps: sorry for any misspelling, english is not my first language. ps2: for those that is curious in why I will bring a welder from USA: a quality MIG welder here costs around 3 times more! And my travel to USA will be not only to buy the welder, shure.
