Do I need a 2nd regulator to connect my SIP welder to a Pub Gas supply?

I bought my SIP welder last year and went for the 'Gasless' model.

I always planned to try 'Gas' once I managed to source some CO2.

Well, my neighbour (who has contacts) has finally come up with the goods and given me a 'pub gas bottle' complete with regulator and guage.

Can I now connect the output of the regulator directly to the welder, or will the pressure be too high... Should I get a small regulator to go at the welder end, or do I just turn the tap on the bottle down until I get the right flow?

Other than wastage, is it possible to have too much gas when welding?

Any info on this would be appreciated

Jon

Obviously that would depend on the regulator. If it's remotely appropriate, then it'll be fine. RS can supply you with pushfit connections to go onto the usual nasty skinny plastic hose on small welders, or try a welding shop.

You ought to know my opinions of using plain CO2 as a shield gas by now 8-)

Fortunatly, the same guy who got me the bottle works in the 'beer' trade so has given me every type of connector and hose that I need.

I have fitted a 'reducer' to the thin pipe out of the back of the welder, so now I can connect it to something much more appropreate.

I take it by your final comment that you are not a fan of plain CO2.. At the end of the day, the only welding I have done thus far has been with 'flux cored wire' and thats been good enough for what I want.. I would imagine/hope that ANYTHING is better than that.

All the best and thanks for your help
