HELP/WTB: Plasma Cutters, Riland CUT60, ...

Feb 16, 2005 0 Replies

I'm looking to buy a decent plasma cutter on a limited budget. I'll be cutting mostly 3/8" thick material, but sometimes I will cut some 1" thick plates. Does anybody have any opinion on the Riland CUT 60 or CUT 40? The price makes them look attractive, but if you look at the spec sheet, the "feed" rate in IPM for the various thicknesses is kind of low.

The mainline models that I'd like to consider: Miller 2050 or 1000 Hypertherm Thermal Dynamics ESAB Powercut 1500

Reasoned, fact-based opinions are sought and regarded over strong, unfounded opinions. Salt grain is at the ready.

Previous searches show opinions all over the board on who is good and who is not (justified/detailed opinions are saltproof :-): "ESAB is crap..., avoid Thermal Dynamics, ..."

It would be nice to see detailed descriptions and reasons behind those statements, or better yet, detailed endorsements of good products.

Thanks.
