house numbers

I need some 5" house numbers made out of flat copper or stainless. Anyone interested in doing this? e mail me with bid. Plasma cut, rough ground.

Steve,

What gage SS, how many and what do you consider "rough ground"? I can just knock the slag off with a 36 or 80 grit pad, with an 80-120 grit Rex-cut, or a flapper wheel. Also need to know your location for shipping purposes.

I need eight numbers, 3581 and 3591. Are you considering doing this with a plasma cutter? I really don't need them brightly finished with all the slag off. Some slag should help to outline and define them. I live in zip code

89121, and I usually use Priority Mail. Gauge should be 16 or close.

Steve,

I will check on what our plasma will do, as far as fonts, tomorrow. I don't have the program here at home. I'll let you know something tomorrow evening, and if possible I'll keep it between us, no base shop rates to deal with.

Please, no offense to the welding community, but Steve will be better off going to a signage company to order the numbers. The numbers will probably be cast or cut out with a yag laser in any font imaginable. Furthermore, the letter he gets will be predesigned to mount on a wall if he wants.

A yag laser can cut to perfection in less time than a metalworker can find a template. And they are cool to watch, too.

I am a practical man. So practical that I will go out and buy the plasma cutter that I was contemplating rather than spend the $8 to $32 per letter that these companies want for these letters. At $64 to$256 per job savings, a $1,000 plasma cutter will pay for itself in short order.

My plasma cutter, forge, Tig rig, electric band saw, and other goodies are awaiting a break in my work season to be setting in my shop. In the meantime, I just wanted to know if someone wanted to do the job. I want to mount them to rods that I have anchored into boulders. And I disdain cookie cutter letters that are yag laser perfect. If I wanted something generic, I would go to Ace or Home Depot. Freehand looks freehand. CNC cut looks sterile.

Good to see that workmanship is better than machine-man-ship.

Steve,

Now that I have read the above I may have jumped the gun, but I went ahead and cut some numbers out today. They are about 5 1/2" tall, I know you said

5" but that is what the plasma cut them. Did I misunderstand what you wanted? These pieces don't look "sterile" to me, they're actually a little on the rough side since I haven't ground them yet. I had planned on running a grinder across the back to remove the slag and then let you finish them as you see fit. As for price, $8 is way more than I had in mind, I was thinking about half that amount? BTW, these are 16 gage 304 2B SS, they are not polished brightly, just sort of a mill finish, but could be polished fairly easily. Let me know what you think, either here on the group of privately. If you don't want them it won't be a big problem, won't be the first time I've had to scrap a project like this.
